When to request for prayers
"Pujas" are Buddhist ceremonies or rituals that involve making prayers and offerings to Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to request their blessing, guidance, protection, and help. Pujas are frequently performed at auspicious occasions for auspicious beginning like birth, marriage and so on. Alternatively pujas are requested when facing difficulties in one's life ranging from relationships, wealth and health. In order to overcome obstacles in and create favorable conditions in one's spiritual activities and worldly life, these puja can be requested for yourself or for your family and friends. Thekchen Choling offers many pujas as listed below.

Guru Puja
Lama Chopa (Guru Puja) and Tara Puja This is the most important puja held monthly and is attended by most disciples. The text covers the entire path to enlightenment and includes the making of extensive offerings. This puja is requested for purification, to request for an auspicious start to any undertaking and for the removal of obstacles. It is done together with the recitation of praises to the 21 manifestations of Mother Tara.

Funeral Puja - (Tibetan Mahayana or Chinese Mahayana tradition)
We provide funeral prayer services of the Tibetan tradition with recitation of the Lama Chöpa and Medicine Buddha prayers. We also provide chanting in the Chinese Mahayana tradition. For funerals, between 20-30 of our members typically attend the prayers. For residents of old age homes or anyone unable to afford funeral prayer services, please contact us so we can help. You can also request our sangha to recite the traditional prayers for the deceased which include The Heart Sutra and The King of Prayers for 3 or 7 days. Medicine Buddha Puja
This puja is especially beneficial because of the extensive vows (hyperlink to the vows made by the Medicine Buddhas) the 7 Medicine Buddhas took to benefit sentient beings in these times. This puja is done for people with health problems and also for those who have passed away.
"Medicine Buddha practice is so precious. You can do Medicine Buddha puja for any purpose, any problem, anything!" Kyabje Zopa Rinpoche, LMB, July 2001.

Shakyamuni Buddha Puja
This puja is especially requested for the sake of developing great compassion . It is often requested for people who may have difficulties in relationships or as a long life prayer. The main purpose of the puja is the development of bodhicitta and the inspiration to benefit others. As with all pujas, extensive offerings are made to accumulate merit . The seven limbed practice within this Puja helps to accumulate merits, purify and pacify obstacles, gain understanding and wisdom to lead you to enlightenment

House Blessings and Consecration Ceremonies
This prayer is particularly important prior to moving in or just after. The house blessing and consecration ceremonies can be done especially if you have a Buddhist altar set up in your home. Please call to make an appointment and seek advice on an auspicious date and time for your blessing and consecration. For existing homes, the ceremony can be conducted at any time. If you have a statue that has not been consecrated, please bring the statue to our temple and we will arrange for consecration according to the Tibetan tradition.

Incense Puja (Riwo Sang Chöt)
“The Mountain of Burnt Offering”, is a incense fragrance and smoke offering puja made to all the Buddhas, Deities, Dharma Protectors and Dakinis. It was a terma (Hidden treasure) teaching concealed by Guru Rinpoche in order to benefit the future generations. He gave explicit prophecies regarding the future manifestation of this sacred teaching, and accordingly, it was revealed by Terton Lhatsun Namkha Jigme. This powerful puja enables participants to accumulate merits and blessings. It facilitates the purification of negative karma, enhance life force, eliminate sicknesses and obstacles, as well as paying off the karmic debts of our previous lives, and increasing wealth and life spans for our present and future lives.
